Apples naturally contain antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and fiber. These nutrients
help prevent disease.
Note: Buy organic whenever
possible because apples are known to be highly contaminated with pesticides. When tested there
were 42 pesticide residues found by the USDA Pesticide Data Program. If you cannot
buy organic apples, then just be sure to thoroughly wash, and then peel your apples
before eating.
Apple Juice - Healthy or Not?
I prefer to make my own apple juice in a power juicer. It's easy to do, it tastes great, and
there are no added preservatives. I actually add apples to a number of vegetable juice recipes which I also
make in my power juicer.
Dr. Oz certainly stirred things up recently when he aired this show announcing that several popular brands of apple juice contained unsafe
levels of arsenic. This is highly controversial since the FDA standards allow for up to 23 parts per
billion in apple juice, and only about 10 ppb in drinking water.
